Marilise van Zyl

Marilise splits her time between Johannesburg and Kenton On Sea, drawing inspiration from both vibrant cityscapes and coastal serenity. As a student at the Lorette Atkins School of Art, she channels her sense of wonder and gratitude into evocative watercolour and ink creations.

With a rich professional background as a retired criminal trial advocate and educator, Marilise has encountered the duality of human experiences—loss and despair, alongside resilience and hope. Her art reflects this balance, weaving together themes of overcoming challenges, renewal, and the beauty of life's simplest joys. Her motifs often include stormy skies, budding seeds, and enduring roots, each symbolizing tenacity and transformation.

A passionate admirer of blue, Marilise infuses her work with a spirit of optimism and serenity. Beyond her paintings, she is a skilled silversmith who honed her craft at the Liz Laubser School of Jewellery Design, adding yet another layer of artistry to her creative endeavors.
